Defensive needs at the record champions

The Munich team is plagued by personnel concerns before the game in Leipzig, especially the defensive line is currently heavily thinned out. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann was unable to assess at the beginning of the week whether Dayot Upamecano could play against his ex-club Leipzig. The situation is similar with Alphonso Davies, who had to leave the field early in the USA international match.

Then there are Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernández and Marc Roca, all three of whom have been working towards their comeback for a long time. On the offensive, Thomas Müller and Kingsley Coman are battered and questionable against the Saxons. After all, Nagelsmann is in good spirits with Frenchman Lucas Hernández: “He’s physically fully back and has no knee problems. The injury has healed.”

But even in Leipzig, the preparation for the top game on the fourth day of the Bundesliga is anything but ideal. Because of the international break, RB coach Jesse Marsch only had eleven field players to choose from at the start of the training week on Monday. Most of the 15 national players who were flown out did not return to Leipzig until Wednesday.
